What is The Holy Grail of Private Equity Fund Reporting?
Here a t Seneschal we believe it is error free reporting. Like the Holy Grail, it remains elusive, a hidden ideal regarded as a myth.
Errors within the private equity fund administration ecology will remain widespread as long as there remains heavy reliance on manual processes a n d spreadsheets. Most errors in private equity fund administration auto-correct over time, but some result in LP reports being recalled and reissued.
Why Error-Free Matters
Administrator reports are essential for investors who wish to assess performance, risk, undrawn commitments and valuation metrics.
Beyond investor requirements of course, errors in the NAV / capital accounts or performance figures can distort fund returns. This m a y result i n unfair allocations between investors, incorrect carried interest calculations, or indeed disputes with the GP.
Why is a single point of truth so important?
Single point of truth is a critical concept in private equity fund administration. It ensures consistency, control, and confidence in the fund’s data across all stakeholders and processes.
Private equity fund LP reporting has many outputs, such as capital calls and quarter-end statements. Using multiple spreadsheets or systems can lead to significant data divergence. We have eliminated that.
Besides removing the stray spaces, I made two small edits: “like… etc.” became “such as…” (using both is redundant), and “&” became “and” to match the rest of the text. You might also consider “A single point of truth” or the more common term “single source of truth” at the start.
Seneschal
Seneschal owns proprietary technology designed to deliver an error-free experience to private equity funds. Our systems have been developed so that all Excel spreadsheets and manual workarounds have been fully eliminated from our fund administration platform, without exception. Others will follow.
Does this mean there will never be a typographical error on page X or Y of a set of Quarterly Financial Statements for LPs? Of course not. But we have never needed to recall and reissue an LP drawdown, capital account, or other such statement. This is what we guarantee.
We believe this is a unique resource within the alternative funds industry, and that it truly represents the Holy Grail of private equity fund administration: an error-free report for all parties involved.
